I have a BA (Hons) in History and have a great deal of experience with using primary sources. I regularly travel to archives and depositories and I use the internet to it's full advantage. I have my own 'Suffolk' collection of local history books, documents and ephemera incuding old postcards, directories and original works.
Since graduating from University Campus Suffolk, I have carried out research projects for them including collecting the oral histories of retired bargemen who worked on the famous Thames Barges from Ipswich.
My work has included transcribing a soldier's diary from World War II for his son.
I have transcribed and analysed a Victorian diary held in Suffolk archives which revealed much about the respectable lady who wrote it and the middle class community of Ipswich at the time. I am currently working on a project to publish the findings.
I have been researching my own family tree for over twelve years and I assist and carry out family history projects and other historical research for others.
I am very interested in the social implications and history of the beer industry and have carried out various 'pub' histories for the proprietors and interested individuals.
I have a very extensive library of books, directories, vintage magazines and other items, please contact me if you would like me to look up something for you.
